SxSW 2009 Preview: Kissy Sell Out

The Pure Volume Party is where most people we know will be finishing their festival week this year. If you find yourself that way then make sure you keep an eye out for Radio One DJ Kissy Sell Out.

Oh and bring an air horn, he likes air horns.

We caught up with the Essex based electro-pop music prodigy to see how preparations were going for this year's event - and we we're mildly impressed with the bands he's looking forward to seeing:

1) How many times have you been to SxSW?

This year will be my first time and I can't wait!

2) What's the best thing about being in Austin? or if you've not been before.... What are your tourism related plans?

I went to Houston when I was younger and I loved it so in between shows I'm looking forward to hitting some diners and meeting the other bands there - especially the American ones as I don’t get to see or meet many of them over in Europe.

3) Why are you playing SxSW? (Cos we hear the money isn't too good)

I haven't really toured anywhere in the states yet and SxSW seems to be the festival everyone in Europe talks about so I'm really excited and honoured to be part of this year's line-up given the intense competition for places. I really would love to tour America intensely as for a band its the ultimate road trip, so im hoping that because there is such a strong industry presence that they may like what they hear and book us!

4) Who are you showcasing for, and where and when can we expect to see you?

The songs my band will be performing will give audiences a taster of what's to come on my debut album but my main objective with the live dates is just to put on a damn good live show for however wants to party and hopefully kick start future plans for appearances in America. We’re doing 3 live shows- wed and fri night at la zona rosa, thurs night at canvas and then I have 2 DJ shows- one on Friday at the 538 house and then the closing party for pure volume on Sat..so great and busy!

5) Which other bands/artists are you most looking forward to seeing over music week?

The choice of acts is mind blowing so I want to try and see some bands who I wouldn't normally see like Venice Is Sinking, The Brunettes, Juiceboxxx, Passion Pit, Amanda Blank, DEVO, Tittsworth, Dananananaykroyd, Priestess, Third Eye Blind, Silversun Pickups and of course I'll be at the Late Of The Pier shows!

6) Will you visit the Film or Interactive sections of SxSW this year? Or is time tight?

If I can still walk after the intense number of gigs I'll be going to then I don't see why not!

7) What does the rest of 2009 hold for you?

After SxSW I'll probably get a days sleep in and then jump straight into promoting my first single and debut album. I've already had some very big festival dates confirmed for my band too and I'm sure they will provide some more highlights of my year. I'm trying to just take every week as it comes so I can still enjoy all these fantastic things that are happening to me. It's going to be a fun year!
