My Latest Novel released their debut album Wolves back in 2006 to mass critical acclaim though it still remained relatively under the radar at the time.
Three years later and the group are back with a new album in the pipeline and a highly anticipated show at this years SxSW Festival.
We managed to catch up with the boys before they hit Texas to talk to them about their upcoming show at the Festival as well as what the future holds for My Latest Novel.
1. How many times have you been to SxSW?
This will be our second time. We were over in 2007.
2. What's the best thing about being in Austin? Or if you've not been before.... What are your tourism related plans?
Possibly the food. Last time, we went to a bar and they served incredible burgers. Sadly we can't remember its name, so we may not find it this year. Also Waterloo Records is amazing. I picked up the Besnard Lakes album there last time. My favourite memory of Austin last time though was seeing Daniel Johnston on a patio out the back of a bar. It was supposed to be restricted access, but Ryan and I managed to find a way in.
3. Why are you playing SxSW? (Cos we hear the money isn't too good)
Well, we haven't had the chance to play in America too often, so it's always nice to get over. It's a good opportunity to get our music heard in America, and hopefully we can release our new album in the US and tour.
4. Who are you showcasing for, and where and when can we expect to see you?
SXSW Bella Union Showcase
Thursday 19th March 2009
708 W. Sixth Street
My Latest Novel onstage: 12:00am midnight
SXSW Scottish Showcase
Friday 20th March 2009
512 San Jacinto Blvd.
My Latest Novel onstage: 3:30pm
5. Which other bands/artists are you most looking forward to seeing over music week?
I'm really excited about seeing PJ Harvey and John Parish. Oh, and Grizzly Bear. Also, The Decemberists and Hawk and A Hacksaw. Obviously Echo and the Bunnymen!
6. Will you visit the Film or Interactive sections of SxSW this year? Or is time tight?
Last time we didn't visit the film sections, but if we have enough time, I'm sure we will this year. The first time you go to SXSW, it's all a bit overwhelming and there seems to be so much happening. Hopefully we're a bit better prepared this time, and we get a chance to explore!
7. What does the rest of 2009 hold for you?
2009 is going to be incredibly busy. Our new album Deaths and Entrances will be released on the 18th May, and we'll be touring all over to promote that.
