You probably couldn't count all of Still Flyin's members using just your fingers and apparently you couldn't match their energy on stage so anybody en-route to Austin, Texas for this years SxSW are in luck.
We caught up with the band moments before they packed up for the event and had a chat with them about their upcoming performance. Here's what all one million of them had to say.
1) How many times have you been to SxSW?
This is Still Flyin's first time jamming SXSW although several of us have been to it before with other bands so we know the ropes and what it takes to survive.
2) What's the best thing about being in Austin? or if you've not been before.... What are your tourism related plans?
I love Austin. It's a college town but a big city at the same time - the best of both worlds. It's also got a lot of Mexican food AND a lot of BBQ. You can't find good BBQ in San Francisco so that's what I'm going to be doing. I think one of our shows is at a BBQ joint so maybe I'll bring the microphone over to my table and sing and eat at the same time. That might be too gross though so we'll see what happens.
3) Why are you playing SxSW? (Cos we hear the money isn't too good)
We love playing shows and hate resting and SXSW is the easiest way to cram a ridiculous amount of shows into a small amount of time. While we're there we'll just be playing music, jamming some brews, and eating BBQ - no time for boring things like sleep or doing laundry. We have eight shows in four days plus some interviews and stuff.
4) Who are you showcasing for, and where and when can we expect to see you?
We've got three shows for our UK label Moshi Moshi and one more for our US label Ernest Jenning. We added on four more shows for the hell of it. Here's our schedule: Wed 3/18 @ 7pm - Ms. Bea’s / Todd P & NY Noise Wed 3/18 @ 11:30pm - Club 1808 / Moshi Moshi and Fused Magazine Thu 3/19 @ 5:30pm - Red House Pizzeria / Music For Listeners & Moshi Moshi Thu 3/19 @ 2:40am - Ms. Bea’s Yard / Todd P Fri 3/20 @ 2:45pm - Home Slice Pizza / Music By The Slice Fri 3/20 @ 1am - The Independent / Ernest Jenning Sat 3/21 @ 1:10 - Side Bar / 40 Watt Sat 3/21 @ 3:15 - Lamberts / Moshi Moshi and Anorak
5) Which other bands/artists are you most looking forward to seeing over music week?
The only band I want to see is Third Eye Blind. I haven't done much research though.
6) Will you visit the Film or Interactive sections of SxSW this year? Or is time tight?
Time is too tight for filming or interacting with anything other than our own shows, BBQ, beer, and Third Eye Blind.
7) What does the rest of 2009 hold for you?
Lots of stuff! Our record is out in April and we're touring the US in April and we'll be in the UK in July. Then more touring after that. While in the UK we average less shows per day than SXSW - usually only one a day. And we eat fish and chips instead of BBQ, although last time I was there I watched an American football game in a BBQ joint in London but I did not eat there. I went to a pub to eat fish and chips.
