SxSW 2009 Preview: The Black Box Revelation

Brussels, home of the humble sprout and the burgeoning career of blues / rock / garage outfit, The Black Box Revelation.

Fronted by Jan Paternoster and Dries Van Dijck, the two childhood friends have already impressed America, particularly Pittsburgh, who's Major League Baseball team have snapped up the commercial rights to hit single 'I Think I Like You'.

The band gave us this short but sweet interview on their return to America:

1) How many times have you been to SxSW?

First time, sorry!

2) What's the best thing about being in Austin? or if you've not been before.... What are your tourism related plans?

We’ll be in Austin only for two days and we have to play late each night, so we won’t have a lot of free time for tourism, but we’ve heard the weather will be great and the atmosphere cool & relaxed, so we’ll stroll around a bit…

3) Why are you playing SxSW? (Cos we hear the money isn't too good)

To convince labels, publishers and especially concert and festival-promotors Black Box Revelation is the missing band they were already looking for…

4) Who are you showcasing for, and where and when can we expect to see you?

We’re playing round midnight on Friday March 20th @ “Mohawk” for SF-based label “Take Root” and Saturday 21st March @ “Habana Calle 6 Patio” for Hamburg’s “Reeperbahn Festival”

5) Which other bands/artists are you most looking forward to seeing over music week?

Black Lips and Led Zep!

6) Will you visit the Film or Interactive sections of SxSW this year? Or is time tight?

Unfortunately no time!

7) What does the rest of 2009 hold for you?

We’re now touring Europe with Eagles of Death Metal, we’ll tour France with Ghinzu after SxSW, followed by our first headline tour in Germany, Switserland and Italy, a brand new single plus a nice club-tour home in Belgium early May, then Finland, “The Great Escape” in Brigton / UK, festivals all over Europe during the summer, release second album in October…
