Last year at the Explosions In The Sky-curated ATP, The National headlined the Pavilion Stage, coming out onto stage with Bon Iver's 'Flume' ringing in their ears.
Tonight, proving that 4AD artists stick together, the lights go dim and Bon Iver returns the favour, playing The National's 'So Far Around The Bend', before striking out the opening chords of 'Flume' for real.
Justin Vernon and Bon Iver have come a long way over the past couple of years. He notes from stage that "we only played the Camber ATP last year which was pretty much our first gig here".
Now they're headlining the Pavilion stage on a Friday night chosen by The Breeders, people who Vernon refers to as "royalty".
Highlights from the show included a great sing-a-long for 'Skinny Love', 'Blood Bank', which sounds so much better live than on record and a stirring rendition of 'Wolves', a now familiar live favourite, with Vernon instructing those assembled what volume to sing "What Might Have Been Lost", and then to freak out at the end.
A few years ago Justin Vernon quit everything and retired to his hunting cabin in the hope of finding himself. Tonight, our love affair with Bon Iver has gone off the charts.

Even his face makes me happy.
