The National played a mini-soundcheck gig at about midday on Saturday, to no more than a dozen revellers that had survived the previous night's festivities.
It was a wonderful apéritif to what lay ahead later that night, with frontman Matt Berninger particularly enjoying the early wake-up call.
Later that night when The National come onstage, Matt still has a broad grin on his face, as they perform an array of their songs from their four studio albums.
At one point Matt valiantly attempts to jump into the crowd, but can't quite reach. With the bouncers help, he finally gets a few seconds with those down the front.
Afterwards he cries out: "I wanna thank those guys" pointing to the bouncers.
After an incredible 90 minute set, the audience felt very much the same way about The National.
Great photos, there's something about his barritone voice that gives me the shivers. Certainly one of the greatest bands of our generation.......xoxo
Amen to that, cracking band. You heard the Virginia EP too? Good stuff.
Is it really four studio albums already????
