Explosions in the Sky are still not a household name, yet they've curated their own festivals and headlined multiple others. As Texas' lone star flag fluttered onstage Friday night while many others hovered in the skies above, Explosions just about cemented their place in our hearts and minds.

EitS have often remarked they like to remain leaderless. Pure instrumentation helps in this regard as there is no frontman - just four guys thrashing their guitars and drums, sweeping through a sonic journey that picks up person after person onto the EitS vehicle of choice.

There's never any danger of crashing and burning. Explosions are too good, although at one point Munaf Rayani jumped onto the drumming stage and shook it so much that the stage wheels almost gave way.

As usual the only thing unmoved was the solitary microphone onstage. After 70 minutes it was finally employed to acknowledge the crowd's final applause.

Rayani then pointed at us down the front and said "You guys were great!"

Awww thanks Explosions, you guys were awesome too.
