"We're gonna play some songs that no-one's ever heard - well in England at least." From that moment Jonathan Meiburg and Shearwater could do no wrong in our eyes as we and all those in attendance whooped our hearts out.
Watched on by a largish crowd and Loney Dear's Emil Svanängen, Shearwater mixed and matched new song with old, as all five members showed off their multi-instrumental skills.
Meiburg's vocals are incredibly powerful, imbued with passion, yet never taking centre stage.
The band's charm lies in its strength in depth. Take Thor Harris for instance. A great drummer in his own right, but stick him on a glockenspiel with Kimberly Burke who herself doubles up on double bass and you light a match on a creative spark that eludes many a band.
"Last time we were here, we were in seven feet of mud" exclaimed Meiburg. "I had so much Dorset mud on my guitar case that we had to to have an agricultural inspection when we went back home".
And inspecting Shearwater with our first pint of organic cider on a sunny warm cloudless evening was the perfect way to kick-off our End Of the Road experience.
