It's always a tricky endeavour, opening up for the main act and especially so now the main act, Biffy Clyro, are riding a wave of mainstream recognition.

Six months ago supporting Biffy might have been natural territory for Manchester Orchestra, instead they find themselves at times playing to the bar queue chatter, especially in this new open plan Academy venue filled with the new wave of radio-friendly Biffy Clyro fans.

So it was, unfortunately, a reduced set and despite our very earnest pleading beforehand there was no time to play the traditional epic set-closer 'Where Have You Been'.

The set was a good introduction to the band's new material with the opening tracks of the new album forming the early part of the set. A well received show which will be one of the band's final UK appearances before it's time to retreat to the studio for album number three.
