Blood Red Shoes have come on leaps and bounds over the past year. It's easy to pigeon-hole Blood Red Shoes as a White Stripes reversal.
Yet, that is a massive disservice to the Brighton duo, as they now have an encouraging selection of songs all lapped up by a fervent crowd.
London's KCLSU is packed out well before Blood Red Shoes come to the stage though, and that's tantamount to the excellent choice of support on this bill.
Opening the proceedings are the excellent and difficult to put in a sentence - An Emergency. Hailing from the joint destinations of Exeter and Brighton, the progressive/punk outfit rally through a short set, mostly made up from their upcoming 'Wrecked Angels' LP.
Next up are the hotly tipped These New Puritans. They seem to have been around for quite some time, but it was only this year that they got around to releasing their debut album 'Beat Pyramid'.
Opening with 'En Papier', the Southend-on-sea outfit rip into the superb 'Swords of Truth', before gliding into 'Elvis'. Those three tracks amongst the finest the band have to offer, and it sets the scene nicely for a great, albeit short set from the three-piece.
So onto the main show, and after a year of solid touring with the likes of !!!, Maximo Park and Biffy Clyro, Blood Red Shoes have certainly come onto the stage in better shape for it. Confident, yet not cocky, the duo strut the KCLSU stage in style.
Laura-Mary and Steven play for about an hour before shooting off for a Radio 1 session, but that didn't stop them inviting one fan-boy onto the stage to play cow-bell for a riotous encore, where they concluded with the similarly anarchic A.D.H.D.
Cue a stage invasion to make the bouncers look as useful as an Olympic torch security team - and you've got the makings of one of the finest concerts London will see this year.
