Photos, LIVE Review: Sunburned Hand of the Man @ Miss Peapods, Penryn

24th June 2008 | by Mark Thomson

Psychedelic drone rock, hovering busts, tribal stick pounding, aluminium sheens, caped musicians and the faint smell of death throughout the room. Nope, it's not a Michael Barrymore pool party, it's the weird and wonderful live show of Sunburned Hand of the Man.

Fast garnering a reputation for bringing the most interesting music to the land of Cornwall, Miss Peapods pays host to all of the aforementioned wackiness on this Tuesday night.

First though, pre-empting them with a shot of sanity are local band The Rosemarie Band. The three piece pull a few instrument switcheroos throughout their set of sprawling progressive folk music.

We imagine if Liars decided one day to be remotely interesting, then they'd find themselves sharing a groove with Americans Sunburned Hand of the Man, (we'd of gone with spelling it 'sunburnt' ourselves) for at the drop of a staff (often quite literally) they give a shock injection of adrenalised rhythm into their overpowering drones.
