The Stills Live at SxSW 2008 - The Parish

SxSW 2008 Live: The Stills

18th March 2008 | by Aidan Williamson

Having been handed the performance baton by Los Campesinos, The Stills have a crowd that is thoroughly hyped up and ready for what may be their final band of SxSW 2008.

Frontman Tim Feletcher saunters out looking like James Dean had he been sealed in a vacuum bag before September 1955. With ne'er a hair out of place, the band blast straight into "Lola Stars and Stripes" before asking those present if they were ready for some new material. Judging by the reaction, they very much were.

Having signed to a new label in the form of Arts & Crafts, which also plays home to forerunners Los Campesinos, Broken Social Scene, Feist and Stars, it seems that these Canadians will last far past the one album that all the naysayers pegged them for.

With classy, spirited, endlessly cool performances, The Stills lend themselves to the question, What are you dancing to?, What've you got?

Saw three amazing Stills shows at SXSW, the first two by accident, the third because of the first two times. I can't believe how badass they were. So awesome. Blow away 99% of bands out there, and I only found out about them this week!

Have your say
