Working For A Nuclear Free City Live at SxSW 2008 - Beauty Bar Backyard

SxSW 2008 Live: Working For A Nuclear Free City

14th March 2008 | by Gavin Riley

After nearly an hour setting up their various instruments, Working For A Nuclear Free City still weren't happy with the sound coming back from their monitors.

But after a shrug of the shoulders from frontman Phil Kay, they unleashed a storm of keyboard-based electro pop, and rewarded and revitalised a patient crowd.

Working For A Nuclear Free City list an innumerable amount of influences for their style of music, ranging from The Chemical Brothers, to The Velvet Underground and to The Flaming Lips. And the band bring these influences to the fore in a luscious 40 minute set.

The band have struggled to make an impact on the U.K music scene, but by tonight's showing, America certainly seems to have taken to WFANFC. And that's a big step for now, however, time will tell if they can impress on the home front.

WTF? This band is gonna be huge, deservedly so. If England doesn't respond to them we'll yank em over here. Class band, and a class show.

Have your say
