Support new music: choose from our favourite new albums this month.

Slim pickings, not always a negative thing. With a smaller herd, the individuals are given more space to find their audience.

Just five albums reside on the non-jam band release schedule this week, we wish we could say one of them was awesome, but the first one's The Twang, another is a B-sides album. A third is an album by a 60's also-ran. The fourth is something of a hodge-podge. Luckily, we're quite fond of the fifth. Match up the descriptions to the albums if you wish.

Personally, if we were that bored, we'd be on Fail Blog already.

The Twang: Jewellery Quarter

They say it's bad to judge a record before you've even heard it, some would even say it's impossible. However, every member of the SG family is willing to donate their first-born if Jewellery Quarter provides one coherent or original track. Need more proof? They're from Brimingham and the NME like them. The offence rests!

Robin Trower: What Lies Beneath

Robin Trower is still churning out new material after over forty-years in the music industry, not only that, but he also just finished a world tour! The 60's rock idol made his fame during the days of Status Quo and The Beatles, but his recent output has provided far less then the Gold awards that he received back in his heyday.

Modest Mouse: No One's First and You're Next

Modest Mouse didn't hold much of a reputation before the release of there third album Good News For People That Like Bad News, which in all honesty, was a fairly decent album. Follow-up We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank was met with a small amount of disappointment. This EP features unreleased songs from both albums so it should complete an interesting picture.

Wild Beasts: Two Dancers

We've been keeping a close eye on these four Bristish folks since we were first in their presence at last years Latitude. They blew us away then and have continued to do so since, Two Dancers is most definitely no exception to this wonderful norm. The record has circulated the SG office many times and surprisingly we're still not getting bored. Wild Beasts are parting a route straight through the middle of all the mainstream dribble available, and we hope to see many awesome bands emerge from their wake.

Throw Me the Statue: Creaturesque

A distant relative of Pedro the Lion, we have another nice, pleasant, jangly American twee-indie band for your perusal. While we said that Creaturesque was lacking in focus, you may like them blurry.
