Arcade Fire have been forced to cancel the rest of their European tour after lead singer, Win Butler, succumbed to a sinus and bronchial infection.
Writing on the Arcade Fire website Win said: “I am backstage at the venue in Oslo and I have just had to make the very sad decision to cancel the rest of the European tour.”
"Last night [in Stockholm] I kept yelling at the monitor guy because I didn't recognise the sound that was coming out of the monitor as my own voice, and it took me until the second song to realise that that sound was coming form me. Today I can barely speak or make any sound, so finishing the shows is no longer possible."
It was rumoured that they would have to cancel the run of dates at Brixton Academy earlier this month, but the band soldiered on regardless.
The band have promised to try and come back to the dates missed as “soon as it is humanly possible”.
The affected dates are:
25 March - Copenhagen, Denmark, Vega
27 March - Berlin, Germany, Postbahnhof
28 March - Munich, Germany, Elserhalle
31 March - Lyon, France, Transbordeur
1 April - Cologne, Germany, E- Live Music Hall
2 April - Utrecht, Netherlands, Vredenburg
4 April - Brussels, Belgium, Halles de Schaerbeek
5 April - Lille, France, L'Aeronef
The band say they should be able to fulfil the American leg of their tour including their set at Coachella on 28th April where they are second on the bill.
