Beloved Sheffielders Arctic Monkeys are walking a different path with the release of their new single, they're releasing an Oxfam exclusive.

The upcoming S.P goes by the name of "Crying Lightning". Fans will be able to purchase an exclusive 7" vinyl version of the song for £2.99. Proceeds will all go to the charity, buyers will also get themselves a download code enabling them to grab a digital version of the release.

The last time Oxfam tried something like this was way back in 1984 (the year, not the book) when they stocked the Christmas single "Do They Know It's Christmas Time?"

"Crying Lightning" will be backed by a cover version of the Nick Cave song "Red Right Hand", the package will be available from August 17, 2009, a week before their upcoming album - Humbug - lands on shelves.

The band are also urging fans to take the opportunity to relinquish their unwanted CDs into Oxfam's care, since re-selling music constitutes £6 million of Oxfam's annual income. David McCullough, Oxfam's director of trading, said: "Oxfam shops have always been one of the best places on the high street to pick up a musical bargain or find a rare treasure, and this is a fantastic reason to pay your local shop a visit."
