Pointing out that the Daily Mail suffers from outbreaks of bad journalism is as enlightening as our other shock announcement that the sky is in fact blue.

However we really have to hand them the golden biscuit for their coverage of emo. The story was triggered by the tragic suicide of a young girl after her music tastes were discussed in the inquiry.

This time it seems like My Chemical Romance are going to pick up the baton from Marilyn Manson as the media whipping boy, but seriously, can a journalist not even check Wikipedia to realise that 'The Black Parade' wasn't their first single, or perhaps in this case first single means, the first time The Daily Mail heard of them.

From the article:

"The Emo phenomenon began in the U.S. in the 1980s. It is a largely teenage trend and is characterised by depression, self-injury and suicide.

Followers wear tight jeans with studded belts and wristbands. Their hair is dyed black and worn in long fringes to obscure their faces.

Emo - from the word emotional - is a reference to the angst-filled lyrics and melancholy themes of the rock music central to the culture.

One of the foremost of these "suicide cult" bands is My Chemical Romance, from New Jersey.

Their first single, Welcome to the Black Parade, from the album The Black Parade, was released in 2006 and became a huge hit, going to number one in Britain."

The concept album follows the story of a character called The Patient, who dies of cancer.

The Black Parade is a nickname for the place where Emo fans believe they will go when they die.

I just want to see what MCR says in response to all of this. It is sad a girl commited suicide, but that aside, those comments about emo and MCR are quite hilarious in one aspect.

RIP

Yeah i agree with you. Journalists lie and talk smack. They need to do thier reaserch before they publish. MCR is and isnt an emo band. I know ive known them since 2000. So the jounalists need to back off.

LMAO! What a quote! It had to be the mail too! What utter trash. No one from the mail will be joining The Black Parade when they die. Mr Emo says so.

I'm with you guys. Journalists need to do more research before they say stuff, expecially when we know the truth. My Chemical Romance is the best band ever. Although I do feel sorry for the girls family, but we can't go blaming emo and bands that are emo, part emo, or not emo at all for these type of things.

is a quote from the inquest and is not the mail's words. It was testified that this was something believed and promoted by a group she was part of. Sounds like of the commenters need to do some fact checking too!

Jeeezzzz... I think the girl was nutz... what can you know about life when you are only thirteenn!!!! some ppl commit suicide because they've gone through a lot of shit... but this girl knew nothing about life... her close friends and family should have known she needed some help.... sorry if I sound like an asshole, but it's the truth... My Chemical Romance had nothing to do with her desicion... and the journalists say what ppl want to hear...
