Entertainment Weekly in Fresh List Outbreak

21st March 2008 | by Ross Riley

Lists, lists, lists. Is there any music fan that can't be placated with a fresh sprinkling of 'The Best ..[insert spurious qualifier here].... Albums of all time'.

Kudos must then be directed to Entertainment Weekly, not one of our usual haunts it must be said, for their 'Indie Rock 25' which lists the essential indie album of each of the past 25 years.

Best of all is that no faux indie bands are allowed, a genuine independent release was needed to qualify. Sounds pretentious we know but a trawl through the list would certainly give you a genuine experience of the best music of the last quarter of a century.

Here's the list:

1984: The Replacements - Let It Be
1985: The Smiths - Meat Is Murder
1986: R.E.M. - Life's Rich Pageant
