Gruff Rhys has announced a full North American tour in support of his latest solo album, Hotel Shampoo.
The enigmatic lead singer and songwriter for celebrated Welsh outfit Super Furry Animals, solo artist, one half of trans-Atlantic electronic duo Neon Neon and documentarian extraordinaire, (that's a mouthful) will release Hotel Shampoo in the U.S on May 3rd via Wichita Recordings.
The tour, which will see Gruff supported by and backed by North Wales surf pop band Y Niwl, kicks off in Brooklyn, New York on May 18th and winds its way around the US and Canada before a final night at Manhattan’s Mercury Lounge on June 15th.
Just ahead of those dates, Gruff’s South American road trip documentary Separado! – in which our intrepid hero spends several weeks tracking down his long lost Patagonian relatives – will be shown at this year’s SXSW Film Festival.
Hotel Shampoo is Gruff’s third solo album filled with shimmering slices of kaleidoscopic, cinematic pop, including the enticing singles “Shark Ridden Waters” and “Sensations In The Dark”.
As a testament to the album title and inspiration, Gruff recently created an art installation at the Chapel Arts Center in Cardiff, Wales - a hotel made entirely of bathroom items garnered from various hotels throughout his touring career - and spent the night sleeping inside.
