Starting tonight in Brighton (tickets here), Jack Rose and the Black Twig Pickers begin their week long tour of the UK, on the hairy back of a record we saw fit to slap a nine upon here.
Beside the excellent, and truly diverse array of support acts cropping up throughout the seven dates (reading like a who’s who of upcoming folk-oriented orienteers) the tour has also been marked by the implications of what has fast become a tour motto of sorts:
"Instead of making records, why don't you just wade out into your audience and beat the sh*t out of 'em with a baseball bat?"
Interesting. Hopefully they're leaving the sports equipment at home, but you can expect your senses to get a glorious pummeling from this genuinely raucous and raw band delivering their own white hot take on a timeless art form, taking in 90 minutes of pre-war US folk, bluegrass and country, with added sparkles such as full-on barnstorming renditions of Jack Rose classics such as 'Kensington Blues' and Pelt track 'Ayahuasca' (Rose and Black Twig Picker Mike Gangloff were both previously in Pelt).
