After a week of being put under the kosh by French politicians, Sebastien Tellier will attempt to pacify his homeland critics by throwing in some extra French lyrics into his Eurovision performance next month.
Several MPs slammed Tellier for picking a predominantly English song for France's Eurovision Song Content entry, with one MP, Jacques Myard, blaming the singer for helping to "give up our language".
Tellier says that although he feels the response from politicians is overblown, especially as it was chosen ahead of a stack of other entries, he will change the song to please the French public.
He said: "The baguette won't taste any worse tomorrow morning if I sing in English... I'm not going to fight it. I just want to please people."
"If I had been asked to do a song expressly for Eurovision, I clearly would have done something in French.
"If it makes everyone happy, of course I'll make an effort."
Tellier was selected by France 3, the state television channel, to perform his electro-pop track at the annual contest – which takes place in Belgrade on 24th May.
The original track was almost entirely sung in English - a first for a French entry in 52 years of the competition.
