Critically acclaimed British wonder-band Elbow are set to follow up 2008's almost flawless 'The Seldom Seen Kid' with a new record due sometime in 2010.

Speaking to Billboard, front-man Guy Garvey said:

"It's tempting to try and capitalize on this one's success but I think it's more important that we make sure it's a good record. It'll be about 18 months from now."

"We've got a bunch of stuff that we've been writing on tour, that we're very slowly knocking into shape. We're trying to do just five or six days of writing every few weeks, and then we're going to collate it, and do the same thing again for a year and half. So it's well on its way."

The band are currently confirmed for a slew of upcoming Festival dates with their final night of The Seldom Seen Kid Tour planned at the MEN Arena in their hometown of Manchester on September 18th. They are also set to support Coldplay and U2 on their respective arena tours in the months before the Manchester date.

All of these arena dates and huge-name supporting slots were getting us a little worried so it was a welcomed relief that during the interview with Billboard, Garvey put our minds to rest:

"We make enough money to live really comfortably and we're just going to concentrate on making the best music we can and having fun doing it. We had a rule from day one that if it stops being fun we'd go and get another job."

Roll on 2010.
