Of Montreal are back with some new material this spring with thecontrollersphere EP, due out April 26th via Polyvinyl.

The band have made the opening track Black Lion Massacre available to download from this location - as usual there's no charge other than your e-mail address.

Produced by Jon Brion and recorded during the False Priest sessions, the five-track effort is described by of Montreal’s Kevin Barnes as a “folk record.”

However the first track is certainly heavier than anything we've heard from them on record before.

As Stereogum points out maybe the darkness of those Norwegian black metal he sang about on Hissing Fauna finally made a real impression.

Also on April 26th, Polyvinyl will release What's Weird?, an art book from Of Montreal's in-house artist David Barnes. The book features 128 pages of his paintings and illustrations and comes with a download code for audio commentary by Barnes himself. Barnes will sign his name on all 250 copies of the limited edition hardcover version of the book and include a unique hand-drawn sketch.

Here's a preview of the forthcoming EP:
