The Academy Awards have dropped the live performances of its nominated 'Best Music (Original Score)' category thus removing the only watchable part of the ceremony.

The segment, which has previously seen the likes of South Park's "Blame Canada" performed live will now be represented by a humble video montage from the film while the song plays on top of it.

The nominees this year are:

  • "Almost There" - The Princess and the Frog - Music and Lyrics: Randy Newman
  • "Down in New Orleans" - The Princess and the Frog - Music and Lyrics: Randy Newman
  • "Loin de Paname" - Paris 36 - Music: Reinhardt Wagner, Lyrics: Frank Thomas
  • "Take It All" - Nine - Music and Lyrics: Maury Yeston
  • "The Weary Kind" - Crazy Heart - Music and Lyrics: Ryan Bingham and T-Bone Burnett

Ryan Bingham and T-Bone (writers of the song "The Weary Kind" from Crazy Heart) recently revealed, when questioned, that neither of them had even been invited to the ceremony, which will take place at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on March 7.
