Coachella's reputation for being 'the' place to reform your band is likely to extend into 2010 with the news that a Pavement reunion is a strong possibility.
Portishead, The Verve, Rage Against the Machine, Crowded House, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Happy Mondays, Daft Punk, Tool, Massive Attack, Pixies and Jane's Addiction have all broken extended hiatuses at the festival in the last few years.
The rumour mill started churning when brooklynvegan claimed, citing a "reliable source", that the band would play "[up to] four nights of shows at NYC's Central Park Summerstage in September 2010". Seeing as Coachella takes place in April, the web-log also asserts that their first major comeback is likely to take place then.
An independent source has confirmed that there will be a benefit show at Central Park SummerStage on September 21, 2010 by the band, so the conjecture is in the higher echelons of possibility.
The group played their last concert at London's Brixton Academy on November 20, 1999. A statement released at the time said that "Pavement are retiring for the foreseeable future to: 1. Start families 2. Sail around the world 3. Get into the computer industry 4. Dance 5. Get some attention."
