Radio 1 Celebrates 40 Years With Covers LP

The Streets, Franz Ferdinand and Editors have recorded cover versions for an album to celebrate BBC Radio 1's 40th anniversary.

The compilation includes versions of 40 songs, one taken from each of the years that the station has been on air. The Kaiser Chiefs open the album with the first track Radio 1 ever played.

'The Move's 'Flowers In The Rain' was first aired on Radio 1 on the 30th September 1967, with the disc being spun by DJ Tony Blackburn.

The LP will will be called 'Radio 1 - Established 1967', and will be released on 1 October.

There will be a fair few stinkers unfortunately. Natasha Beddingfield will cover Madonna's 'Ray Of Light', Hard-Fi have reworked Britney Spears 'Toxic', while Girls Aloud have the task of replicating Wheatus' 'Teenage Dirtbag'.

However the likes of the Raconteurs covering the legendary 'Teenage Kicks' by the Undertones and the aforementioned Franz Ferdinand taking on David Bowie's 'Sound & Vision', make this an album worth perhaps cherrypicking on iTunes.
