Warner Chappell, the publishing company responsible for overseeing the release of Radiohead's "In Rainbows" via the honesty-box policy have spoken for the first time about the financial results of the album. The company's Head of Business Affairs Jane Dyball will announce to a conference of industry delegates today that the income from the first phase of the project (the pay-what-you-want experiment) far exceeded previous digital publishing income and made a "material difference" to Warner Chappell UK’s digital income.

It has also been revealed that the band were watching the average donation amount daily and were prepared to pull the plug on the experiment if it were to drop too low. What hasn't been revealed though is the information which everybody most wants to hear; that of the average donation per download and the total number of downloads completed. These figures will not perhaps ever see the light of day, a fact which constantly projects a negative light on the experiment.

However, results have been published totalling together the sales from all the formats, grouping together box sets, CDs and all legal downloads including iTunes and the pay-what-you-want service via their official site. These are said to number at around 3,000,000 units. The band had apparently pocketed more money from "In Rainbows" prior to its physical release than they did for final sales for "Hail to the Thief". All in all, those involved in the experiment are hailing it as a grand and extremely lucrative success.
