Experimental Okkervil River spin-off Shearwater are currently a decade in to their musical careers and whilst 2010 marks year eleven for the band, it'll also mark the release of album number six.

Yes, a forthcoming Shearwater L.P by the name of The Golden Archipelago has been announced over at the Matador labels Matablog (with a rather cool video too) and apparently, it's due on February 15th everywhere except the US where it'll be released just over a week later on February 23rd.

If last years fantastic Rook was anything to go by (which it probably is) then this is a definite must-have for the early-2010 months.

We'll be sure to keep you updated on the new record as more info is released.

Shearwater haven't had any association with Okkervill River for years now. Will Sheff left the band ages ago, and Jonathan Meiburg no longer has anything to do with Okkervill.

Shearwater are not a spinoff - they're their own band, and they sound nothing like O.R.

Lighten up Patrick. "Spin-off" doesnt necessarily mean that Shearwater and O.R are joined at the hip. It just means that the band spun off or were created from another band.

But i definitely cannot wait to hear this record.
