The Soho Lounge in downtown Austin provides the setting for the punk stylings of the chaotic three-piece from Ohio known as Times New Viking tonight.
The sound team of the venue seem to be resolutely against the trio tonight. Having to interrupt their set-up time to let out a public service announcement asking if the sound engineer would please return to the sound desk, outside influences were not on their side.
After a few songs of experimenting with sound settings, the band hit their stride, whipping the adequately full and excitable audience into something resembling a frenzy. That the band's and the audiences time together was so brief was a double edged sword. A memorable set for sure, but like copious amounts of coffee, each cup may be increasingly enjoyable, but sooner or later it's gonna kill you. And then how will you get to listen to their next album?
