Yo La Tengo Live at SxSW 2008 - Austin Music Hall

SxSW 2008 Live: Yo La Tengo

14th March 2008 | by Ross Riley

We find our way to the Austin Music Hall, one of the larger venues on the festival circuit and it's packed which is kind of surprising, since it is also one of the most distant.

Nevertheless this didn't stop a crowd in the region of 4,000 packing the venue out to listen to Yo La Tengo. It's refreshing to see such adulation for a band that have undoubtedly influenced a great deal of other artists with their unswerving and uncompromising independence.

No crowd assembled will ever be completely au fait with the band's vast back catalogue but for once this was an irrelevance. The band sprinkled in tracks both old and new and impressed purely on the energy and sheer volume of their soundscapes.

This was a well received set which showed off one of America's finest alternative rock bands of the last decade, the applause was long and genuine
