Mike Skinner of The Streets is currently engaged in either a fantastic plight for the goal of self-promotion, or a great scam with the goal of self-promotion.
Skinner claims to be documenting his trek on foot from England through to the South of France (that's the part near Spain) as part of the music video for his new single "The Escapist", however, eagle eyed reporters over at Pitchfork spotted that Skinner has live shows scheduled in Austria, Switzerland and England whilst this supposed feat is going down.
The song was originally intended to appear on the soundtrack of a film by the same title directed by Rupert Wyatt and starring Brian Cox and Joseph Fiennes. The track was dropped from the film after the 35 year old director decided he didn't like the track and opted for a Coldplay song by the same title instead.
Speaking about the upcoming new Streets album, Skinner writes, "The biggest song on it, so far, is called 'Everything Is Borrowed'. I know the title sounds like a Kaiser Chiefs song but I promise it will be better than that."
"This album started off life as parables but then I realised that it might get a bit cheesy so I got rid of the alien song and the devil song and replaced them with more straight up songs. I've pretty much kept my promise that I made to myself not to reference modern life on any of them though which is hard to do and keep things personal at the same time. I am working very very hard."
