Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit are set to release their second album Here We Rest on April 12 through Nashville-based Lightning Rod Records.

And where better place to promote it than the South By Southwest Festival.

Jason talked to Strange Glue about how much they're looking forward to SxSW and the year ahead:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) How many times have you been to SxSW?

I've probably done 7 or 8 in the last 9 years. I know we missed last year.

2) What's the best thing about being in Austin? Or if you've not been before.... What are your tourism related plans?

That's hard to say. I love the food, I love seeing old friends, and I love seeing folks like James McMurtry, John Dee Graham, Redd Volkaert, and Frosty play local shows at the Continental Club. Probably won't have much time for that during SXSW.

3) Why are you playing SxSW? ('Cos we hear the money isn't too good)

We have a new record coming out April 12, so this year SXSW seemed like a no-brainer. Also, it's nice to play parties and showcases for friends like Thirty Tigers and Billy Reid. They're good to us, so it's worth it to play for them once in a while.

4) Who are you showcasing for, and where and when can we expect to see you?

Showcase is Thursday night for Thirty Tigers. I think we're on at 11.

5) Which other bands/artists are you most looking forward to seeing over music week?

I'll see The Civil Wars, and hopefully QOTSA. Those are my only goals, since it usually works best if you just show up and ride the wave. You know what they say, "If you want to make God laugh, make plans for SXSW."

6) Will you visit the Film or Interactive sections of SxSW this year? Or is time tight?

That's a good question. Yes, time is tight, but we'll see what happens. I'd love to experience some of the film side of the conference, since I've never been able to do that before.

7) What does the rest of 2011 hold for you?

We'll be touring heavily behind the new album. Europe in late April/ early May, then back to the States for a good long time. I'm looking forward to it.
