Floridian musician John Vanderslice recently put out the excellent White Wilderness album earlier this year, released via Dead Oceans.

He recorded the album with Minna Choi and her Magik*Magik Orchestra in just three days in San Francisco.

Now he heads to Austin for the South by Southwest Festival with just three days to make an impression. Here's what he had to say to us about it all:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) How many times have you been to SxSW?

5-6? it's a blur to be honest.

2) What's the best thing about being in Austin? Or if you've not been before.... What are your tourism related plans?

Hanging out with bands you love is pretty phenomenal. There is also delicious food in Austin.

3) Why are you playing SxSW? ('Cos we hear the money isn't too good)

For the love of art and music!!!!!!

4) Who are you showcasing for, and where and when can we expect to see you?

I playing Dead Oceans, Paste, Other Music, Noisepop, and Schuba's party. I'm also do a live broadcast on KEXP and KUT. All this in three days.

5) Which other bands/artists are you most looking forward to seeing over music week?

Whoever is playing before and after me.

6) Will you visit the Film or Interactive sections of SxSW this year? Or is time tight?

We'll only be there for the music section, but i would LOVE to go to Film and Interactive one day.

7) What does the rest of 2011 hold for you?

US tour in April/May and EU tour in September/October. Then we'll record a new record with the Magik*Magik Orchestra.
