If you're familiar with the Vivian Girls, you'll no doubt be aware of "Kickball" Katy Goodman. Having already teamed up with Cat Power to form the short-lived All Saints Day, Katy also formed her solo project La Sera last year.

Her pure angelic vocals contrast with songs about death, love, and love lost within the span of two minute choiral pop songs.

That contrast is perfectly laid bare on her debut video (below which we should warn you not to watch over dinner.

Katy has a hectic schedule this year so we were delighted she sat down for Strange Glue to answer our questions about this year's South By Southwest Festival:

1) How many times have you been to SxSW?

I think this will be my 6th or 7th year. I've lost track!

2) What's the best thing about being in Austin? Or if you've not been before.... What are your tourism related plans?

I really love Austin. I moved there on a whim when I was 18, and I fell in love. I've tried to go two or three times a year since, and have fun every time I'm there. I love eating tacos, queso and swimming in Barton creek.

3) Why are you playing SxSW? ('Cos we hear the money isn't too good)

Any reason to go to Austin is a good reason. Plus I like seeing friends bands play.

4) Who are you showcasing for, and where and when can we expect to see you?

We are playing the Sub Pop/Hardly Art showcase, and our booking agency Ground Control showcase. The full schedule is up at

5) Which other bands/artists are you most looking forward to seeing over music week?

I always enjoy seeing No Joy, who we are playing with once. I'm also looking forward to Las Robertas.

6) Will you visit the Film or Interactive sections of SxSW this year? Or is time tight?

Ah unfortunately not! We don't get there till Wednesday.

7) What does the rest of 2011 hold for you?

After SxSW, I will be touring with Vivian Girls through June. Then on/off touring with Vivian Girls the rest of the year. I'll probably be touring a lot.
