Philadelphia bliss-pop outfit Sun Airway have one of the most hectic schedules known to man at this year's South by Southwest Festival.
One of the commendable shows the duo will take part in is the Invisible Children show, which involves 25 bands who will busk in the streets of Austin to help out and bring awareness to the plight of child soldiers in Uganda.
We caught up with Sun Airway mainman Jon Barthmus who told us more:
1) How many times have you been to SxSW?
Sun Airway have never been, but I've been twice with another band. Wild times.
2) What's the best thing about being in Austin? Or if you've not been before.... What are your tourism related plans?
There are so many great things about Austin. I'm most excited about some warm weather and good times. Aside from the music I'll probably try to go swimming at the hot springs and maybe watch all the bats fly out from under the Congress St. Bridge at sunset.
3) Why are you playing SxSW? ('Cos we hear the money isn't too good)
Partially we're playing because it's like music vacation but it's also nice to be able to play with so many awesome bands and in front of a wide variety of audiences in a short amount of time.
4) Who are you showcasing for, and where and when can we expect to see you?
We have I think 6 or 7 shows all over the place that I don't even really have a handle on at the moment. But I know we're playing one of Pitchfork's Offline shows, URBN Outfitters backlot, I Guess I'm Floating party, the Secretly Canadian/Dead Oceans/Jagjaguwar showcase and a few other proper shows and some on-the-street acoustic playing for Invisible Children.
5) Which other bands/artists are you most looking forward to seeing over music week?
I'd like to catch James Blake but I have a feeling it will be impossible. Not sure who else yet but that's part of the fun...figuring out when we have some free time and who's got a show going on then.
6) Will you visit the Film or Interactive sections of SxSW this year? Or is time tight?
We're not going to be there in time for all that stuff but would be nice to catch a couple films if they're showing during the music fest and we have time.
7) What does the rest of 2011 hold for you?
We're possibly doing a week of shows in April in barns in the midwest, playing the Pitchfork Music Festival in July, possibly doing a tour in Europe, recording new music for a 7" this year and hopefully a new album next year. Probably a lot more... gonna be hectic!
