Popular London dream-pop foursome The XX have just recently released their fantastic debut album 'XX' and to top it all off, they also played an absolutely outstanding performance at last weeks CMJ in New York.
As they stood there on stage, smiling and proud at themselves and their music, it honestly seemed as if nothing was going to hold back these young, promising individuals but that doesn't particularly seem to be the case as the quartet may well be turning into a trio.
Baria Quereshi, the female guitarist of the group, was absent from their gig last night at the Village Underground in Shoreditch, London and it was male vocalist and bassist Oliver Sim who addressed the puzzled audience about the missing member:
"Obviously this has been a really tough few days for us. This is the first time we've played as a three piece. It's devastating not having Baria here with us but you all being here has made us feel better...thank you very much."
In a statement written this morning, a publicist also wrote about a few cancellations within their current European tour due to Quereshi's current down-time:
"Baria didn't perform last night after feeling exhausted from The xx's recent touring commitments. As a result, the band performed as a 3 piece in London last night and have postponed some European shows which they are hoping to reschedule. They are next due to play in Frankfurt on 3rd November."
Here's hoping the four of them sort everything out together. After all, a group with this much talent and promise really doesn't need the exhaustion of touring to mess things up before they've even lived.

Weren't the same last night without Baria. They put on a spirited performance in the show must go on sort of way, but the music lacked the depth that we're used to and not sure if they're a viable 3 piece. Shame as their music really is top notch
Exhaustion? "After all, a group with this much talent and promise really doesn't need the exhaustion of touring to mess things up before they've even lived" and I totally agree to this. So maybe some should call the manager or even ask the other members what was the real reason for cancelling. Also here are four 20 year olds who have had far too much pressure put on them in a very short space of time. If I was managing them I would ease up on the touring. What's the rush?
I am going with the same vibe as the Observer on Sunday ZZZ - the band lacks lustre and appeal without Baria. Don't be put off Baria - the XX really needs you, so get better soon and Mr manager sir, don't push 'em!!! The Stones have been on the road for decades and you really have to work at it and pace yourselves. More to the point who is going to be the pretty one in the band without Baria???
