It's been somewhat of a sad time for the world of punk these last few weeks. Firstly, Long Islanders Latterman decided to part ways, and now it looks like The Blood Brothers might be hanging up their maraccas and tambourines.
For those unfamiliar with the works of Latterman, they crafted finely tuned melodic punk which dealt with the problems inherent in our lives by focusing not on the negative, but on what people can actually do about them. Strange Glue was very kindly given permission by the band to show you what we're talking about.
We have two tracks taken from their seminal album “No Matter Where We Go!”. Also for your consideration is “Blood Brothers - Cecilia and the Silhouette Saloon”, a masterpiece of schizophrenic rock.
Latterman - My Bedroom Is For Like, Artists
Latterman - Yo! Get Into It
The Blood Brothers - Cecilia and the Silhouette Saloon
Also on the audio front, 'Music For Ants" are offering up a taster of some unreleased Sigur Ros goodness in the form of this track.
Sigur Ros - Hljomalind
Finally, with their debut album in the works, Ra Ra Riot recently stopped by the “Daytripper” studios to record four songs in a speical live session.
Ra Ra Riot - Each Year (Daytripper session)
Ra Ra Riot - St. Peter's Day Festival (Daytripper session)
Ra Ra Riot - Suspended in Gaffa (Daytripper session)
Ra Ra Riot - Dying is Fine (Daytripper session)
On the video front, with their Victory Records compilation due next week, footage from the DVD of Thursday's “Kill The House Lights has surfaced, a live performance of ”Signals Over The Air". Just below it is the first single from “Chase This Light” in the form of Jimmy Eat World's “Big Casino”
Entering slightly more bizarre territory we meet Cobra Starship and Schoolyard Heroes, both welcoming us with broken arms. Taking the top bunk is “Guilty Pleasure” by C.S If you have a V-Chip installed, you may want to be wary of the “so emo it hurts” bloodbath video of lower bunk inhabitant “Dude! Where's My Skin?” by S.H.
On the off chance you have an attention span longer than a few minutes, firstly well done, but it doesn't make Lord of the Rings any better. Secondly, there are albums streams for your perusal. Including a completely free download from the good people at Punknews and No Idea Records.
Armor For Sleep - Smile For Them [MySpace]
The Fest VI - Various Punk Artists [Punknews] - free registration required.
Working For A Nuclear Free City - Businessmen & Ghosts [link]
Finally, we have a few pieces of homework for you....
Battles - Tonto (Four Tet Remix) [MP3]
Shy Child - Drop The Phone [video]
Lonely Dear - The City and the Airport [MP3]
A Wilhelm Scream - Die While We're Young [Zip download]
