Support new music: choose from our favourite new albums this month.

Honesty is the best route in most scenarios so I’m going to start this review with a nice honest statement: Barack Obama will change America.

Ok, I’m being silly, the truth is that I had never heard of Headless Heroes before receiving this album and even when researching them further, all I could really find was a single webpage with a cryptic picture linking to just an email and an odd title; focus on the trivial many and avoid the vital few.

And so, with questionable apprehension, I submerge myself in the brief but strange adventure that is The Silence Of Love.

The album is supposedly all covers of songs but, again honestly, I couldn’t tell. Once or twice a couple of lines would strike up some familiarity but overall, this sound was unique.

The first three songs are pure hydrology music and drip with misty, otherworldly droplets, always the right side of psychedelic. The feminine vocals carry beautifully over the music and instead of taking centre stage, allow the music to take direction, following, never commanding.

Much like their sound, Headless Heroes are an ethereal band, swimming into vision and audio and then leaving again, without even a whisper, leaving the softest of footprints.

Brevity is the problem here though, it’s short and although each song is as pleasant as the next, listening to them all isn’t worth it unless the situation fits. The album definitely feels made to be a “come back to” album, letting you revisit just for a song or two, never demanding your attention for its entire duration.

Hey, Who Really Cares? Is a perfect example of minimalist electronica and compliments the mid section wonderfully. These guys are seriously good at what they do and it’s displayed throughout just how promising they could be in a few albums time.

If you have thirty three minutes to sit in your bath, head slightly underneath the surface, ears submerged so everything has a distant hum, candles lit and willing to seriously rrreeellaaaaxxxx then go and get this beautifully crafted CD as it won’t disappoint.
