Captivating music should leave a lasting impression on the listener long after the sound has diminished, that’s generally rule number one of good composition. Longevity and contunuing appeal can make a great album hit legendary status just a few years after its release. Look at Radiohead's OK Computer, it's twelve years old and counting. Yet still, it remains in many people’s hearts, the greatest record in the world.

Treasury Library Canada doesn’t immediately seem to be a fantastic album but the feeling after the initial listen is something quite difficult to explain. The gentle atmosphere and calm surroundings which the music subtly brings to life isn’t noticeable when the music is playing but is instead missed when it ceases. (Almost) needless to say: the first listen should certainly not be the only listen.

"Knock Knock" is a beautiful track complete with laid-back rhythmic groove which floats around simple snares and quieter toms. A jingle of tambourine here; a hint of strings there. The more you listen the more you hear.

This band are effortlessly talented with regards to music and seem almost destined to play the music that they have created. It is invariably conveyed to the listener how well the individual members know their instruments and their timing; it’s in their blood.

Wrapping genre constraints around this type of music would only be to the detriment of its unique sound and overall sonic personality. Call it indie, call it clever pop, "Its like Iron and Wine"; "No it’s more like The Shins!", It doesn’t matter, the music speaks for itself.

7th Fret Over Andres is a gentle acoustic number with melancholic lyrics and a heavy heart. “I thought I’d change it if I could, but now I’m not sure I ever would”. It sounds both honest and poignant, sidestepping mawkishness in favour of enchanting.

Woodpigeon are an astounding band who seem positively brimming with ideas and untapped potential. Their music is brilliantly crafted and ultimately an escape from the normal constraints of the current sonic landscape. It's by no means legendary but give it twelve years and who knows where this album will sit.
